মনে রাখার মতো তথ্য
A noun is fundamentally a naming word that designates a person, place, thing, substance, or concept.
English nouns are categorized into five classes: Proper, Common, Collective, Material, and Abstract.
A proper noun begins with a capital letter, but when used with an article to signify comparison, it functions as a common noun (e.g., "the Shakespeare of Bangladesh").
Some geographic proper nouns ending in -s are plural in form but take singular verb agreement (e.g., "The Maldives is an island country").
Material nouns refer to mass substances (solid, liquid, or gas) and are inherently uncountable.
Abstract nouns designate qualities, feelings, or states lacking tangible physical existence.
Number in English distinguishes between Singular (one) and Plural (more than one) and dictates verb concord.
Plural formation follows regular suffixes (-s, -es, -ies, -ves), vowel mutations (foot → feet), and foreign inflections (thesis → theses).
English recognizes four genders: Masculine, Feminine, Common (both sexes), and Neuter (inanimate objects).
Possessive case is formed with 's for singular nouns, only an apostrophe for regular plural nouns ending in -s, and 's for irregular plurals (e.g., children's).
To avoid hissing sounds, words ending in sibilant sounds take only an apostrophe in set idioms (e.g., "for conscience' sake").
Apposition literally signifies "placing near"—where an appositive noun sits beside another noun to rename or describe it.
Collective nouns can take a singular or plural verb depending on whether the collection is viewed as a single unit or individuals.
Personified expressions like "Nature's laws" or "Bangladesh's foreign policy" accept possessive 's forms.
